Identity Verification Service
The Identity Verification Service enables institutions in Lithuania and other countries to authenticate a person and retrieve identity data of that person or of a represented individual. This data is transmitted to SIRIP or other European service providers' systems, allowing users to access electronic services or information resources provided by institutions.
For electronic identification, users may use electronic identification tools issued in Lithuania and other European countries that comply with the requirements set out in the Law on Electronic Identification and Trust Services for Electronic Transactions in the Republic of Lithuania, Regulation (EU) No. 910/2014 (eIDAS), and their implementing legislation.
A person's identity is confirmed based on data from the Lithuanian Population Register and the Foreigners Register. The right of a person to represent another individual when accessing electronic services is determined based on information stored in the Registers of Legal Entities, Incapacitated and Partially Incapacitated Persons, Civil Servants, Authorizations Register, and the Families Social Support Information System.
Person holding a Lithuanian electronic identification tool (an identity card issued in Lithuania) may:
- access electronic services provided by other European countries via the eIDAS network;
- securely use foreign institutions' electronic resources.
